Are all Auto Insurance policies the same?

No, having the right auto coverage is crucial to avoid costly repairs or financial loss. Knowing what coverage you purchase is essential to avoid being underinsured and/or held financially accountable by law.

What are the types of coverages for Auto Insurance?

  • Bodily Injury Liability: If you are responsible for a car accident, bodily injury liability coverage pays for the medical costs of the people who are injured (not including yourself). This coverage also helps cover payment for legal defense in the event you are sued for damages.

  • Property Damage Liability: If you're responsible for an accident, Property Damage Coverage will take care of the cost of repairing or replacing another person's property. This typically means damage to someone else's car, but it could apply to any other type of property you damage in an accident.

  • Personal Injury Protection (PIP): Also known as no-fault insurance, covers medical expenses and lost wages of you and your passengers if you're injured in an auto accident. PIP coverage protects you regardless of who is at fault. It may also cover funeral costs.

  • Collision: Pays for damage to your car in the event of a crash or accident with another vehicle or object if your car needs to be repaired.

  • Comprehensive: This pays for damages or loss due to something other than a collision with another car or object. Ex. Fires, theft, vandalism, acts of nature, falling objects, and much more!

  • Uninsured Motorist Coverage: Provides coverage for bodily injuries of the driver and their passengers if (1) the other driver did not have car insurance and (2) the other driver was at fault.

Does my auto insurance pay if someone else is driving my car?

Insurance companies require that policy holders declare all drivers in a household, and it can cause problems in the event of a claim if a household driver was not disclosed to the insurance company. The insurance company may cancel the policy for misrepresentation and not pay the claim.

What types of Insurance do you offer?

  • Personal Auto Insurance: Your Car Insurance
  • Health Insurance
  • Boat Insurance
  • Motorcycle Insurance
  • RV Insurance
  • Pet Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Commercial Auto Insurance: Just like your personal Auto policy, this policy protects you and your vehicle when you use it for business purposes.
  • General Liability Insurance: This coverage protects plumbers, handymen, painters, etc., when they are performing a job.
  • Workers’ Compensation Insurance: This coverage protects employees from sickness or injuries on the job.
  • Business Owner Policy (BOP): This protects your business by bundling general liability and property Insurance into one.
  • And much more!

What should I do after a car accident?

  1. Check yourself and your passengers for injuries.
  2. Call the police.
  3. Remain at the scene of the accident.
  4. Take safety precautions: Move to the side of the road or a sidewalk, to avoid being in harm’s way.
  5. If the vehicle is drivable and is causing a hazard where it is, pull it over to the side of the road. Turn on the hazard lights.
  6. Exchange contact and insurance information with the other driver.
  7. Take pictures of the scene of the accident. Also, of the vehicles involved including tag number.
  8. If there were witnesses, get their contact information
  9. Notify your insurance company and start the claims process.

When do I file an auto insurance claim?

Calling your insurance company, the same or next day after the accident is fine but the sooner the better. Remember you can always call your Estrella Insurance agent for assistance and guidance.

Do I need a police report to file a claim?

To file a claim, you don’t necessarily need to have the police report at hand as they can take several days to be completed. At the scene of the accident you might have been given a Driver Exchange form which should have the basic information to get started. However, the insurance company is going to want to see a police report especially if there was another vehicle or someone else’s property involved in the accident.
